Cerec 3D System- This system is used for the fabrication of ceramic dental restorations (crowns, onlay, and veneers) in a single dental appointment. Formerly, during the first visit, patients would have had their tooth anesthetized and prepared, impressions taken, and then leave with a temporary restoration. Two weeks later, the patient would return to the office, again receive anesthesia, have the temporary removed, and the permanent restoration would be cemented.

Office Waiting Room

Completing the entire procedure in one visit conserves time, avoids an additional injection, and eliminates the need for a temporary crown.

In addition, the materials used in the fabrication of a CEREC restoration mimic actual tooth structure. We are able to perform less invasive procedures while conserving the maximum amount of healthy natural dentition.

Digital Radiography: A technician places a small sensor inside the patient's mouth and images are acquired, instantly appearing on a computer screen in the exam room. The digital images, which look similar to traditional X-rays, may then be enlarged and manipulated, allowing dental personnel to better evaluate pathology. The patient receives significantly less radiation than traditional x-rays, and we are helping our environment by eliminating the use of potentially hazardous chemical used in the developing of traditional film.

Panoramic Radiograph

Office Waiting Room

The panoramic x-ray, or Panorex, shows a patient's nasal area, sinuses, jaw joints, teeth and surrounding bone. It reveals cysts, tumors, bone irregularities and more. The panoramic x-ray is also needed in the diagnosis and treatment of impacted teeth and for orthodontic treatment.

Panoramic x-rays are usually first taken when a child is about 7 years old to ascertain the presence of all permanent teeth. Early diagnosis and intervention can result in less invasive future orthodontic treatment and time in treatment.

Intra-Oral Camera

A small camera obtains precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums, and allows us to accurately diagnose existing conditions. With enlarged images, the staff is able to see details which may otherwise be missed by standard mirror examinations. This means faster diagnosis with less chair-time for you! Our office is able to save images in our computer system to provide a permanent record of treatment. The records can be printed for you, other specialists, or insurance companies.

DIAGNOdent-Laser Cavity Detection

The Diagnodent helps detect carious lesions (cavities) at the earliest possible stage, enabling us to provide the most conservative treatment. The Diagnodent is a fluorescent laser that detects cavities that may be missed by x-rays and the dental explorer. It is extremely accurate, and has been awarded the Seal of Acceptance by the American Dental Association. The procedure is non-invasive.

Velscope- Fluorescence Visualization Technology

Every hour of every day in America someone dies of oral cancer. Oral cancer is the sixth most common diagnosed form of cancer in the United States and presently 30,000 patients are diagnosed annually. The 5-year survival rate is only 50%, accounting for 8,000 deaths each year.

Oral Cancer risk factors include tobacco use, frequent and/or excessive alcohol consumption, a compromised immune system, past history of cancer, and the presence of the HPV virus. Recently, however, 25% of all newly diagnosed cases have been in patients under the age of forty with none of the known risk factors. Oral Cancers survival rate has not improved in the past 50 years, primarily due to the fact we have not changed the way we screen for this disease (a visual and manual examination of the oral cavity, head, and neck).

The VELscope System is a revolutionary hand-held device that provides dentists, hygienists and other oral health care professionals with an easy-to-use examination system for the early detection of abnormal oral tissue. The Oral Cancer examination using VELscope is painless, noninvasive, and does not use rinses or stains. It only takes one to two minutes. The VELscope System Handpiece emits a safe blue light into the oral cavity causing it to fluoresce. The clinician then differentiates between normal and abnormal tissue, and is approved by the Federal Drug Administration ( FDA).

Dr. Rogol is the only dentist in Northern Rhode Island using this new technology.

• Patient Education System (CAESY) - CAESY Education system is a comprehensive program used in our dental operatories and consultation room to explain diagnoses, procedures, alternatives, and post-op instructions to the patients in our practice. It covers an extensive range of dental topics so that patients may quickly understand their treatment options and make informed decisions.
• Chair side Computers: Used for CAESY, Digital Radiography, Intra-Oral Camera display, patient records, as well as internet access for patients.
• Electric Handpieces
Presently, there are two varieties of handpieces; electric and air-driven. Electric handpieces are more efficient, allowing the doctor to complete the procedure in a fraction of the time.
